8 Granary Wharf Eateries to Get to Know

August 30, 2020

If you’ve been to our home Granary Wharf before, you’ll know it’s home to a little hub of restaurants, bars and cafes that are all tucked away from town but well worth a visit. We thought we’d introduce them to you for your next coffee date or dining experience.

Out Of The Woods

Our next door neighbour, we’re always in and out getting coffees and sandwiches from Out Of The Woods! It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee or lunch, especially before or after your TBA appointment: they have an array of vegan options and sell the most delicious brownies from local maker Brown & Blond (we’re obsessed!). We love the fact that they source as many local ingredients as they can, sell local and ethically-sourced coffee and support local suppliers. If you can’t make it to their Granary Wharf location, they also have a cafe across the river at Water Lane! Oh and they are very dog-friendly, always a winner with us.

Fazenda

If you’re a meat-eater you won’t want to miss out on what Fazenda has to offer! They pride themselves on their delicious South American gaucho experience. Meat is roasted and cut off the skewer directly onto your plate by Fazenda’s top chefs, while their salad and cured meat buffet is enough to go for in itself! We have it on good standing that the buffet experience will not be lost due to Covid restrictions and instead will now take the form of endless small plates brought to your table. Combine this with its delicious cocktail menu, Fazenda really is the perfect location for a special occasion!

Livin’ Italy

Livin’Italy will forever be one of our favourite restaurants in the City. It has everything you could want in an evening out, gorgeous cocktails, romantic but fun atmosphere and of course incredible Italian food! Any chance we get you’ll find us eating their Creamy Wild Mushrooms with a side of Garlic Pizza Bread, or sharing one of their Antipasti boards with an Aperol on the side.  They also offer Italian breakfast, takeaway coffee, snacks and have delicious deli counter where you can pick up their ready made lasagne for those nights you can’t be bothered to cook but want something a little fancy. Best to book a table if you plan to visit on a weekend, although you can still enjoy a cocktail while you wait! Dogs welcome in the bar & outside.

Archie’s Bar and Kitchen

The aptly named Archie’s is located in the railway arches. It offers upmarket bar food and has its own pizza oven for perfectly stone-baked pizzas. The bar offers local beers and ales and a great array of gin cocktails. It’s great for a pub quiz, if you want to watch the footy or have a family meal out, and can be privately hired if you fancy a party!

La Casita

The newest addition to the Granary Wharf gang, this tapas restaurant is tucked away at the edge of Granary Wharf, but this doesn’t mean it deserves any less attention. Nicknamed ‘the little house of Tapas’, it’s Spanish roots result in perfectly formed dishes like belly pork and bourbon glazed butternut squash. Its drinks menu is worthy of mentioning too, with 5 different espresso martinis! Perfectly sized for an intimate dinner this place would make a great date night location, they also have spots in Horsforth, Ilkley, Boston Spa & Skipton and offers takeaway through its website if you live locally but don’t fancy the trip.

The Hop

The Hop describes itself as ‘a unique real ale house’, and serves all types of local beer and ales as well as award-winning pies. It also has weekly live music nights and pub quizzes! Located at the bottom of Candle House (that red brick cylindrical building you’ll sometimes spot) we haven’t ventured here too often but hear its a great spot for an after work drink.

The Lock Kitchen and Bar

Located inside the Hilton Doubletree, The Lock is the perfect place for a quiet morning coffee, lunch or evening drink overlooking the river. Its deli boasts hot and cold sandwiches and delicious cheese boards. We love it for a meeting over a coffee or a leisurely lunch as it’s large enough to find a space for privacy but has really lovely natural light and great decor. It also has a really under-rated outdoor area with really comfy sofas, huge heaters & blankets and of course let’s your pup sit with you too!

Water Lane Boathouse

We couldn’t serve you a complete celebration of local eateries without mentioning Water Lane Boat House. Located across the river from Granary Wharf and a 2 minute walk away across a quaint pedestrian bridge, it offers local beers, great pizzas & burgers, 2-for-1 nights and a very popular pub quiz night. It’s EXTREMELY dog-friendly, and you can follow its dog Instagram @waterlanedoghouse for updates on the pups that pop in for a drink! This place gets very very busy basically all week round but especially when the sun is out so get down early or be prepared to wait a little for a table.
